One of my poems I just wrote recently and sent into the contest :)
"A flash of light rides through the night,
With so much speed its hard to sight.
His strength and swiftness makes you wonder,
His hooves his ground like rolling thunder.
A shadow's seen upon the hill,
All is silent, all is still.
Near the graveyard he runs past,
His ghost-like figure at full blast.
He rounds the bend at his own pace,
The moonlight shining on his face.
His eyes are gray and sharp like stone,
His sides are thick with sweat and foam.
His back is tense, his nostrils flaring,
His hind legs sore, his muscles tearing.
His dark mane whipping in the breeze,
The crunching sound of fallen leaves.
And as the sunrise comes up round,
The flashing ghost cannot be found.
The sight of hoof prints are a trace,
Of the midnight's silent race." -Madeleine Temple
