The Midnight Race

One of my poems I just wrote recently and sent into the contest :)

"A flash of light rides through the night,
With so much speed its hard to sight.
His strength and swiftness makes you wonder,
His hooves his ground like rolling thunder.
A shadow's seen upon the hill,
All is silent, all is still.
Near the graveyard he runs past,
His ghost-like figure at full blast.
He rounds the bend at his own pace,
The moonlight shining on his face.
His eyes are gray and sharp like stone,
His sides are thick with sweat and foam.
His back is tense, his nostrils flaring,
His hind legs sore, his muscles tearing.
His dark mane whipping in the breeze,
The crunching sound of fallen leaves.
And as the sunrise comes up round,
The flashing ghost cannot be found.
The sight of hoof prints are a trace,
Of the midnight's silent race." -Madeleine Temple

Dreaming...

Dreams help you to visualize what you want, and then later live by them. Never let anyone tell you that your dreams are worthless. For if we didn't have dreams or a vivid imagination, success might never happen! Live your life to the fullest, treasure the memories, take a chance, and keep on dreaming!! <3

Spiritual Growth

Well it's that time of year for...GARDENING!! :D Although I'm not much of an expert on gardening, I do enjoy getting out in the warm sunshine and spending some quality time with the dirt and plants! ;) Last year we planted corn for freezing, and a few other vegetables; but this year, we are doubling our garden! So far we've planted: Corn, broccoli, lettuce, carrots, beets, pumpkins, snow peas, green beans, tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, onions, garlic, and squash. So this summer we're definitely going to be busy with watering and weeding! :P For some reason when I'm out in the garden, I start to think about spiritual things, and learn most lessons from a seed. It's amazing how such a tiny seed can grow into something big, and be able to produce food! Of course the seed has to have plenty of sunshine, water, and proper care such as weeding, so that it is able to grow and thrive. Which can be a spiritual lesson for us: In our spiritual lives, we need to grow in Christ. Of course we can't do that alone. We are completely helpless and cannot continue to grow if Christ is not allowed into our hearts to work in us. Without his word (water) and love (sunshine) we are nothing but a shriveled up plant in this dark world here on earth. And if we allow the devil to take hold of us either by earthly possessions or temptations, we are being choked by the world's influence (weeds) and won't be able to grow. But, if we invite Christ to dwell in us, we can become prosperous and blossom. Matthew 13:19,22-23 says: "When anyone heareth the word of the kingdom and understandeth it not; then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the wayside. He that received the seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful. But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit."

A Special Friend

Here is my poem that got published:

"One friendship is to cherish, not to be put away or sold,
It is far more worth keeping than jewels or precious gold.
If you are ever feeling down, or need a lending hand,
This friend is right beside you, here to help you stand.
When no one else will listen, and no one seems to care,
There is always someone who listens to your prayers.
When your hopes are dashed and you're too tired to try,
There is someone always there who hears your helpless cry.
He looks until He finds you, no matter what it takes,
Tirelessly working till your soul He awakes.
He picks you up and holds you in His loving arms,
And makes His grasp a little tighter to keep you safe from harm.
So when you're lost and in despair, and ready to give up on life,
Remember the one true special friend...His name is Jesus Christ." -Madeleine Temple

A Mother's Love

"A mother’s love is like an island in life’s ocean vast and wide-
A peaceful, quiet shelter from the restless, rising tide.
A mother’s love is like a fortress, and we seek protection there
When the waves of tribulation seem to drown us in despair.
A mother’s love is a sanctuary where our souls can find sweet rest
From the struggle and the tension of life’s fast and futile quest.
A mother’s love is like a tower rising far above the crowd,
And her smile is like the sunshine breaking through a threatening cloud.
A mother’s love is like a beacon burning bright with faith and prayer,
And through the changing scenes of life we can find a haven there.
For a mother’s life is fashioned after God’s enduring love-
It is endless and unfailing like the love of Him above.
For God knew he couldn’t be everywhere, So He put His little Children in a loving mother’s care." -Helen Steiner Rice

The Old Violin

THE TOUCH OF THE MASTER'S HAND

'Twas battered and scarred, and the auctioneer
Thought it was scarcely worth his while
To waste much time on the old violin
But held it up with a smile.
"What am I bidden, good folks," he cried,
"Who'll start the bidding for me?
"A dollar, a dollar," then, two! Only two?
"Two dollars, and who'll make it three?"
"Three dollars, once, three dollars, twice;
Going for three..." But no,
From the room, far back, a grey-haired man
Came forward and picked up the bow;
Then, wiping the dust from the old violin,
And tightening the loose strings,
He played a melody pure and sweet
As a caroling angel sings.

The music ceased, and the auctioneer,
With a voice that was quiet and low,
Said:"What am I bid for the old violin?"
And he held it up with the bow.
"A thousand dollars, and who'll make it two?
"Two thousand! And who'll make it three?"
Three thousand, once, three thousand, twice;
And going and gone," said he.
The people cheered, but some of them cried,
"We do not quite understand
What changes its worth?" Swift came the reply:
"The touch of the master's hand."

And many a man with life out of tune,
And battered and scarred with sin,
Is auctioned cheap to the thoughtless crowd,
Much like the old violin.
A "mess of potage," a glass of wine;
A game--and he travels on.
He is "going" once, and "going" twice,
He's "going" and almost "gone."
But the Master comes and the foolish crowd
Never can quite understand
The worth of a soul and the change that's wrought
By the touch of the Master's hand.

Camp-out/Fly-in!

A couple days ago was the pathfinder Camp-out, and also the Fly-in. Arriving at our friend's house we quickly set up our tent and took a nap as we waited for all the others to arrive. It was a nice relaxing afternoon with lots of sunshine and a warm breeze! Supper around the picnic table with hotdogs and oatmeal patties, potato salad and beans, chips, juice and chocolate cake. We worked on honors, did skits, and games. Then crashed at about midnight. In the morning at 8:00 was the Fly-in breakfast, so when running on only 5 hours of sleep, its kind of hard to be spry! ;) Early in the morning at around 6:30 I went to wash my hair, then went back to the tent to do some reading. After about 10 minutes of being in the tent, I heard footsteps...strange I thought, maybe its just the pathfinder leader. So I thought nothing of it and continued to read! About 10 minutes later my sister arrives laughing and asking me if I enjoyed the view. "What view?" I replied. "Just open the tent," she explained, but when I found that my tent zippers would not open, I knew I'd been had! The guys had come and tied the tent zippers together so I couldn't get out...then proceeded to stick barrels around it. Finally after being in there 15 minutes, my sister came and had someone cut the ties so I could get out! :P Needless to say, the guys thought it was pretty funny, and I knowing I had been tricked, couldn't help but laugh! :) After all that, we prepared for the Fly-in breakfast. Making waffles, scrambled eggs, veggie sausages, and coffee, we waited for the first plane to fly in. We had a pretty good turnout, and I managed to get some pictures of some of the planes!
